From November 2007 and during the first half of 2008, openTrends implanted openFrame J2EE in the IMI (Municipal IT Institute of the Barcelona City Council).
The implantation was a success in several ways:
It managed to perfectly integrate in the development and execution environments (IBM RAD 6, IBM WAS 6.0) of the IMI. These environments have many configuration and operation particularities in order to guarantee the stable execution of hundreds of J2EE applications in just one cluster of application servers.
It managed to accommodate itself with the existing procedures and development methodology.
It improved the set of tools for development productivity and quality control of the code.
It improved and evolved openFrame 1.1. In the implanted version, openFrameIMI 1.2, Spring, Hibernate, Acegi, Jasper Reports and Quartz were updated to their latest versions, iBATIS was added as an alternative to Hibernate, some services were reimplemented, many new functionalities were incorporated to other services, the required configuration for using the services was reduced and several bugs were detected and eliminated. This evolution has constituted the base for the new version of our framework, openFrame 2.0.
It managed to transfer the knowledge on the framework to the department of architecture of the IMI and to several suppliers of the City Council.
Even before the implantation ended, several suppliers began the development of projects using openFrameIMI. openTrends has been providing support to these developments since then. Now, this support, as well as the openFrameIMI maintenance, has been formalized, and the following services will be provided:
Corrective maintenance.
Adaptive and perfective maintenance, with, among others, the following targets:
Fulfillment of level AA accessibility requirements of the UNE 139803:2004 (WCAG 1) in the presentation layer services.
Web Services Security (authentication and ciphering).
Adaptations to support the new environments (JDK 1.5, IBM RAD 7, IBM WAS 6.1).
openFrameIMI Portal to provide a unique entry point to all the documentation, educational material and issues management.
Support to the development teams of the suppliers of the City Council to guarantee the quality and to reduce the time to market of their projects.
After successful implanting openFrame in the Municipal IT Institute of the Barcelona City Council, openTrends continues the collaboration maintaining the framework and providing support for its use.
