Electronic Commerce

Open For Business is an open source project for business applications. It consists of a long list of business applications and a framework for developing them. The standard OfBiz includes a set of integrated functionalities, without adaptations, that no other software contains. It can also be used to develop sophisticated business solutions adapted to the needs of each business.

OfBiz includes the following functionalities:

  • E-commerce
  • Standard product catalog management, with variant matrix and  configurable products.
  • Order management.
  • Client management.
  • Purchases, including automatic requirement-based purchases.
  • Point-of-Sale terminals based on JavaPOS.
  • Warehouse and Stock management, multi-warehouse, barcodes and serialized inventories.
  • Manufacturing, including probes and MRP.
  • Invoicing and client accounts.
  • Content Management for surveys, product information, etc.

Architecture

The OfBiz Framework is a pre-integrated Java infrastructure based on open source projects such as Apache Tomcat, Freemarker, Derby, and beanshell.

Its main features include:

  • Implementation of design templates such as Model-View-Controller, Service Oriented Architecture and a persistence layer separate from the databases.
  • It allows existing or tailor-made applications to be added to a component-based architecture.
  • It reduces the amount of code required by using techniques including scripting, generic and meta-programming.
