Àrea Metropolitana de Barcelona (AMB) has reached the final in the 2020 enerTIC Awards, the awards recognizing the innovation and technology for energy efficiency in the digital age, with its project "Zona de Bajas Emisiones en el ámbito de las rondas de Barcelona” or “ZBE Rondas BCN” (“Low Emission Zone in the area of Barcelona’s ring roads”) in the Smart Cities category.

The project became finalist after the vote of the expert committee formed by the associated companies and the Institutional Collaboration Network of the platform. Online voting for the election of the winners can be done until November 6 through the awards website: www.enerTIC.org/Awards.

Designed and implemented by AMB in coordination with the five municipalities that make up the ZBE Rondas BCN (Barcelona, Cornellà de Llobregat, Hospitalet de Llobregat, Esplugues de Llobregat and Sant Adrià de Besòs), the project aims to reduce the high level of atmospheric pollution and to improve the air quality in the metropolis of Barcelona.

ZBE Rondas BCN combines and integrates the two axes included in the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan of the Spanish Economy that the Central Government presented a few days ago: green economy, which include low emission zones and digitization. The technological control platform created for the management of this low emission zone is a standing out point in the digitalization section.

Opentrends collaborated as a technological partner to develop a cloud platform for the ZBE Rondas BCN project. This platform allows to manage the statistical data provided by the license plate reader cameras, the Spanish Directorate-General for Traffic (DGT) license plate data and the data related to the atmospheric situation. Today, Barcelona Low Emission Zone is the most wide-reaching in southern Europe.

Since 2013, enerTIC Awards recognize innovative technological projects carried out by companies and organizations committed to energy efficiency and sustainability.

This year, both public and private organizations have presented their projects to 15 categories, among which are Digital Transformation, Industry 4.0, Intelligent Infrastructures, Intelligent IT Infrastructures, Smart Territories, Energy Renewable, Smart Buildings, Smart Cities, Smart Data Center , Smart Grid, Smart Lighting, Smart Mobility, Smart Product, Smart Vehicle and Solutions and Services.
